The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn is filming new material for the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind ride at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida!

The Guardians team is already a popular attraction in the Disney theme parks, with a ride dedicated to the Collector’s extraterrestrial and Terran collection in Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort, but with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming up, the cast and crew is set to film all-new, all-different footage for the new ride: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

Gunn took to Twitter to answer a fan’s question about whether he’s filming new footage for the Cosmic Rewind ride expected to first open in EPOCT at the Walt Disney World Resort in 2022. “Yes, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Disney World is also on the agenda,” Gunn said in a tweet.

It seems the director is filming the new sequences when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 begins production later this year.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

The new attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, is a Marvel-themed roller coaster that’s currently under construction at EPCOT.

As one of the biggest announcements that came out of the Resort’s 50th anniversary, the attraction is the first of its kind at Walt Disney World since, unlike what happened in California, the Guardians team did not take over the iconic Tower of Tower – or the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster for that matter – at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. (For the curious, it will be replacing one of my all time favorite EPCOT adventures, the dinosaurs at the Universe of Energy.)

Along with the new film and the Marvel-themed roller coaster coming to EPCOT, a new Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special one-off special episode is headed to Disney+ this Holiday season. Which Guardians-inspired thing are you most excited for?
