REVIEW: War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha
In Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters from Marvel Alpha by Charles Soule, Steve McNiven, Laura Martin, and Travis Lanham, the other most famous Mandalorian bounty hunter, Boba Fett, finally gets his due!
In a multi-part comic book story set between The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi – narrative territory occupied by Shadows of the Empire in the Legends canon – we get to find out just what went down as Fett ferried the carbonite-frozen Han Solo from Cloud City to Jabba’s Palace… and from the looks of it, it isn’t going to be pretty!
Tricky Business
One of the most difficult tasks for this story is that it must maintain tension even though, as devoted Star Wars fans, we all know how this is going to turn out: Solo will be delivered to Jabba, but he will subsequently be rescued by the famous Force dyad of Princess Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker.
However, War of the Bounty Hunters makes up for this by giving Han Solo a possible fate that is incredibly gruesome… if the carbonite matrix isn’t kept stable, the famous Rebel general might literally MELT!
If the chance that Solo might turn into goo isn’t enough to keep you engaged (even though we know he will survive), well, I don’t know what to tell you.
A History of Boba
Another part of War of the Bounty Hunters that will be especially exciting for Star Wars fans is the fact that the narrative pulls from every corner of our favorite galaxy far, far away.
This means that the story pulls in scenes like young Boba cradling the head of his father, Jango Fett, from Episode II: Attack of the Clones, giving new layers of depth to a character who originally only had a few lines (which have even been subsequently re-recorded by Temuera Morrison, who has played Jango, Boba, and several clone troopers, all of which are originally based on Jango’s DNA).
Plus, if you want to read more comics about Fett, you can do so immediately after concluding War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha thanks to the many issues featuring the bounty hunter which are available to read now on the Marvel Unlimited App.
The War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha
In addition to setting up an interesting story, I also have to shout out the 2-page spread of Fett battling in an arena, which we don’t want to spoil because it’s that good! Using a combination of ingenious layout, familiar Star Wars aliens, and dynamic Mandalorian action, these two pages are probably worth the price of admission in and of themselves…
Yeah, the rest of the Boba is just a bonus!
