Spike Lee: “Make Mine Marvel!”
According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly (which was brought to our attention here at Marvel Blog thanks to an article from February 2021 at Shadow and Act), legendary Oscar-winning director Spike Lee would be amenable to working on a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie!
A Life-Long Fan
In the interview, Lee explained that he’s been a fan of Marvel Comics, having grown up reading The Amazing Spider-Man. In fact, we have some evidence that he’s a lifelong fan of Spider-Man, because we know for sure he went to the theaters to see Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017!
How do we know, Marvel Blog True Believers? Because he cast Laura Harrier in BlacKkKlansman (2018) after seeing her performance in Spider-Man as Liz Allan, the object of Peter Parker’s affection in the first Spider-Man movie.
While Lee may be open to directing an upcoming MCU movie – and not to overstep our bounds here, Marvel Blog True Believers, but there’s currently an opening for the upcoming Blade movie and maybe a vampire show in the works – that doesn’t necessarily mean he’d be down to work just any comic book flick.
“To me, DC Comics was always corny,” Lee told EW.
However, Lee minced no words about the fact that he would be serious about an offer to direct a story set in the same universe as the rest of the Avengers movies (and the director almost backed the Marvel Studios now scrapped Nightwatch project).
“If the right opportunity came across,” he said to EW. “I’m not campaigning for it, but I will give it consideration.”
Another Oscar winner on Marvel’s payroll? Never say never, Marvel Blog True Believers!
