BLADE Details Surface, Marvel Begins Hunt for Director
According to some details in an article posted by The Hollywood Reporter about the upcoming Superman adaptation written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe adaptation of Blade, starring Mahershala Ali, has had a slight production delay. Luckily, however, make no mistake, Blade IS happening.
The THR article revealed that Blade, which will be based on a script by Stacy Osei-Kuffour, will begin production in September 2022, rather than at its originally scheduled production start date in July 2022. While no official release date has been announced, with so many MCU movies coming your way in the coming years, Blade will be here before we know it.
It Takes Two, Baby
While a star and screenwriter are already attached to Blade, there has yet to be a decision announced on who may direct the film.
This will be Ali’s second role in the MCU, having previously appeared as Cornell Stokes, A.K.A. the supervillain Cottonmouth, owner of Harlem’s Paradise, in the first season of Marvel’s Luke Cage on Netflix.
However, Ali will not be the first MCU actor to portray more that one role.
After appearing as Doctor Minn-Erva in 2019’s Captain Marvel, Gemma Chan will be appearing as Sersi in the highly anticipated upcoming movie Eternals.
And certain MCU characters even play multiple roles in a single film. Did you know that the on-set performance for Rocket Racoon is actually executed by Sean Gunn, who also appears on-screen in both Guardians of the Galaxy movies as Kraglin Obfonteri. And technically, Vin Diesel has now voiced two distinct Groot characters.
The One You See Coming Is Blade!
Were you a fan of the original Blade trilogy? Is it possible Blade: Trinity may be retconned such that Ryan Reynolds is technically playing Wade Wilson? And what will happen when Deadpool and Blade actually officially meet on-screen in the MCU?
