Tangled Web: Spidey’s Sony Pictures Plan
According to an interview over at Variety, Sony Motion Pictures Group President Sanford Panitch says there is already a plan to have Peter Parker (Tom Holland) eventually connect with the characters being introduced in the Venom movies, in the upcoming Morbius solo movie, and in the recently announced Kraven the Hunter solo movie.
Spider-Man No More?
You may not recall (a LOT has happened in the meantime), but for a minute, there was a question of whether or not we’d ever get to see Holland as Spider-Man again. This was back in August 2019, when it seemed like Sony and Marvel Studios would spilt, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige would no longer be involved with the Spidey-flicks.
However, the two studios were able to resolve their differences (thanks in part to a personal call made by Holland to Feige… believe it)!
Does Anyone ACTUALLY Know What “Anti-Hero” Means?
Thus far, there have already been some connections revealed between the upcoming Sony Pictures movies and the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. For one thing, the Vulture (Michael Keaton) is meant to have an appearance in Morbius, and that trailer also includes some posters that suggest the denizens of the timeline at least have some awareness of “a” Spider-Man.
However, Panitch teased that we would all better understand how Holland’s Spidey would relate to all these villain movies in the wake of Spider-Man 3: No Way Home. In fact, the movie studio executive told Variety:
We don’t really think of our 900 characters as the Spidey-verse. We have a Marvel universe. The volume of characters we have — you know, wait until you see this next Venom. You don’t miss Spider-Man… It’ll be exciting if they do meet, right?”
