Must-Watch: WandaVision Visual Effects Reel
At the start of 2021, Disney+ debuted its first Marvel-based television series.
Suffice to say that WandaVision did remarkably well, quickly hooking audiences with its addictive storytelling.
Of course, the show had much more going for it than just the serial intrigue, though. The visuals established new standards in the medium.
Disney and Marvel spent upwards of $25 million per episode turning WandaVision into a must-watch weekly program.
The special effects splendor wowed audiences, but no one fully understood how impressive they were until now.
Monsters Aliens Robots Zombies VFX (MARZ VFX), the revered special effects studio in Toronto, has provided MarvelBlog with a glimpse behind the curtain.
This video shows how much of what we’ve taken for granted from WandaVision was actually special effects.
Even Vision’s face included digital creation! You gotta watch this:
Can you believe how much of that was fake? We’ve all known that computer animation has evolved to the point that it’s virtually indistinguishable from reality.
Even so, the performance of MARZ VFX rivals any of the acting, directing, or writing in terms of quality!
At the 60-second mark of this clip, Vision’s face disassembles, showing how much of his overall look stems from special effects. It’s a staggering reveal.
MARZ VFX has mastered its craft so much that this video may cause you to question reality.
About MARZ VFX
WandaVision isn’t the first time that the studio has accomplished this remarkable feat, either. On its Vimeo channel, you can watch several other highlight reels.
I highly recommend the Umbrella Academy clip as well. It’s one of my favorite non-Marvel comic book adaptations, and MARZ’s work is integral to its success.
You can follow MARZ on Twitter as well…and you should! The company is currently hiring. You could snag your dream job here and work on the next great special effects-laden project!
Come and join our growing MARZ team.
We’re looking for asset, character, and roto paint/prep artists, compositors, technical directors, and MORE!
