Sophia Di Martino’s ‘Forever Grateful’ for Christine Wada’s Sylvie Designs
Marvel Studios’ Loki star Sophia Di Martino, who plays the role of Sylvie on the new Disney+ series, recently revealed that movie studio designed her costume so that it was easier for the working mom to breastfeed her child while filming the series.
Di Martino Shows Costume Mods for Moms
Di Martino’s Sylvie costume may have been designed to mirror the notorious style of Tom Hiddleston‘s God of Mischief, but there is more to the costume than initially meets the eye! In fact, the British actress took to Twitter to share a rare behind-the-scenes photo of her costume’s unique working mom mod.
It’s not easy being a working Mama! Genius #christinewada designed Sylvie’s costume & added concealed zippers so I could pump easily & nurse my baby between takes. Little (big) things like this that made it possible for me to do my job & be a parent. I’m forever grateful 💖 pic.twitter.com/nn0d8HYrFi

“It’s not easy being a working Mama,” Di Martino wrote on Twitter. “Genius Christine Wada designed Sylvie’s costume & added concealed zippers so I could pump easily & nurse my baby between takes,” she added. “Little (big) things like this that made it possible for me to do my job & be a parent. I’m forever grateful.”
Working Moms
Di Martino recently shared on Instagram that she returned to the Loki set in February 2020 – only 4 months after giving birth to her first child with actor, writer, and director Will Sharpe (Sherlock, Dirk Gently, Flowers).
Luckily for us, the new mom was able to get all of the accommodations she needed to shoot a blockbuster Marvel series while being a first-time parent to a new born. The crew, and especially Loki costume designer Christine Wada, made it possible for Di Martino to return to set by adding concealed zippers to the Sylvie costume so that the actress could breastfeed between takes!
To allow the new mother to breastfeed, the star was simply able to unzip sections of her black Loki catsuit so that she could easily use a breast pump or feed her child while on set.
These type of modifications aren’t as common as one might think in Hollywood, but things are starting to change as more working moms speak about the barriers facing breastfeeding actresses.
A recent example of another Hollywood mom breaking norms to serve mommy realness is the pop star Katy Perry, who famously disguised her breastfeeding bra under an uber-chic Christian Siriano two-piece designed with custom features like an easy-access zipper panel to facilitate her breastfeeding needs while filming American Idol.
