WandaVision Garners Emmy Nods Galore
On Tuesday, July 13th, 2021, the nominations for the 73rd Annual Emmy Awards were announced! And stop the presses, Marvel Blog True Believers: there were loads of nominations for the two eligible Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney+ shows, WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The Emmy Awards will air on CBS on September 19th, 2021, at 5 PM PST/8 PM EST.
WandaVision
First and foremost, WandaVision nearly stole the show with twenty-three nominations (is that why the date of the 23rd is circled on the calendar in the first episode, “Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience,” Marvel Blog True Believers)!
Notably, three episodes got nominated for Best Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or Drama Special: Jac Schaeffer, WandaVision, “Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience”; Chuck Hayward and Peter Cameron, WandaVision, “All-New Halloween Spooktacular!”; and Laura Donney, WandaVision, “Previously On.”
While many other aspects of the show were also honored, including a nomination for Best Outstanding Limited Series, I have to shout-out two nominations in particular: Elizabeth Olsen for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series, and Kathryn Hahn for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series. Truly, WandaVision was “A Tale of Two Witches,” and these two talented actors deserve due credit for their roles in making that a reality.

You may think that this means that WandaVision has garnered more nominations than any other eligible show, but you’d be wrong! It turns out that a very, very obscure Disney+ show called The Mandalorian managed to earn twenty-four nominations. Oh, so close!
It will be fun to see which show is ultimately awarded more wins.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
While The Falcon and the Winter Soldier did not get quite as much attention in terms of Emmy nominations as WandaVision, it was not entirely overlooked! Notably, it was nominated for Best Outstanding Visual Effects in a Season or Movie.

In addition to some other technical awards, Don Cheadle was nominated for his guest appearance on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Here at Marvel Blog, we feel like there are a few other guest roles that probably could have received this nomination, as well… I screamed when Ayo (Florence Kasumba) arrived as a final scene reveal, and then proceeded to kick butt for a whole episode afterwards, and there was also the character of Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), who played an important supporting role in multiple episodes of the show’s first season.
Who Will Win?
