REVIEW: Enemies All Around in DOCTOR APHRA #12
In Doctor Aphra #12 by Alyssa Wong, Minkyu Jung, Victor Olazaba, Rachelle Rosenberg, and Joe Caramagna, with a main cover by Sara Pichelli and Nolan Woodard, Aphra and Sana Starros are infiltrating an event that’s attended by all of the biggest baddies in the Star Wars galaxy… and they all have a personal vendetta against Aphra!
Party Tricks
Doctor Aphra #12 plays out exactly how you would expect the arrival at this party to go for Aphra and Starros.
Given the number of questionable individuals that the pair has pulled one over on throughout the years, there are no shortage of vendettas at play here. For that reason, this issue is mostly set-up for what’s to come, but considering how quickly the stakes are raised for Aphra, this set-up never feels like a chore.
In order to fully enjoy this issue, you’ll need the context of Aphra’s backstory in the 2015 run of Darth Vader, currently available to read on the Marvel Unlimited App. This is the story arc that introduced Aphra, and it comes highly recommended!
Just like the other entries in the War of the Bounty Hunters storyline, this issue does a great job of tying in story elements from every corner of the Star Wars galaxy together.
Fett Caveat
But there is one thing I have to say about this issue: it makes me realize how much potential there could be for an onscreen team-up between Aphra and Boba Fett!
With The Book of Boba Fett arriving on Disney+ later in 2021, it seems like there is a ton of potential for an Aphra appearance on the series – and if you’re wondering how the timeline would work out, it would take place about eight years after this story on the Star Wars chronology!
