REVIEW: Extreme Carnage Phage #1 Slays!
In Extreme Carnage Phage #1 by Steve Orlando, Gerardo Sandoval, Victor Nava, Chris Sotomayor, and Travis Lanham, with a main cover by Skan, we get the next chapter in the Extreme Carnage crossover event!
This crossover is using a somewhat different structure than some of the other crossovers at Marvel Comics, like War of the Bounty Hunters. This is because we get a single chapter of the Extreme Carnage book each week! It’s a neat way to tell a serialized story and introduce new readers to the different symbiotes in the Marvel universe, and it’s keeping me on the edge of my seat!
Extreme Carnage Phage
Last week’s installment of Extreme Carnage, Extreme Carnage Scream, ended on quite the cliffhanger. Fortunately, that plot thread is picked up in this issue, so you won’t have to wait too long to see what happens next (however, the story isn’t resolved in this issue, so don’t get too complacent, Marvel Blog True Believers).
This issue raises the stakes on several of the ongoing storylines, and it also introduces another possible ally to the narrative.
Meanwhile, the art on this issue is an interesting change-up from the previous two issues, with extremely expressive characters. One of the best parts of this event has been how each entry feels different from the last, and the art goes a long way towards immediately establishing a unique tone for this entry.
Finally, the letter from the editor in the back of the issue includes a reading list that points out key issues in the story of Scream! This is a cool inclusion that is helpful for readers who have less experience with the symbiotes.
More Extreme Carnage on the Way
Next week, the next issue of Extreme Carnage will arrive! Will Flash Thompson and Anti-Venom be able to stop Carnage, or is this the end of our favorite symbiote host? We can’t wait to find out, Marvel Blog True Believers!
