Free Comic Book Day 2021
Free Comic Book Day 2021 is tomorrow, Saturday, August 14th, 2021.
On Free Comic Book Day, participating local comic shops give out special FCBD comics for free (although depending on the shop, there may be a limit on how many comics each customer can obtain, so that many can take part in the event).
While the comics are provided free of cost by the publishers, the costs associated with shipping, handling, and distributing the issues to customers are incurred by the shop, so it’s always nice to say “thank you” and consider purchasing some additional comics to go along with your free ones.I recommend something from the current event, Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters).
Avengers, Hulk, Spider-Man, and Venom
As you might imagine, Marvel is invested in spotlighting its most popular characters during this event. For that reason, one issue being released this year is Free Comic Book Day: Avengers/Hulk by Jason Aaron, Donny Cates, Iban Coello, Ryan Ottley, with a cover by Ottley and Frank Martin.
And then, the other issue is Free Comic Book Day: Spider-Man/Venom by Zeb Wells, Ram V., Al Ewing, Patrick Gleason, and Bryan Hitch, with a cover by Gleason and Alejandro Sanchez.
Both of these one-shots will give you an idea of where the respective creative teams are heading with the books moving forward, so you’ll want to be sure and pick them both up if you are a fan of these characters!
IDW’s Star Wars: High Republic
The, from IDW, are some comic book storylines heading to a galaxy far, far away. Written by the wizard master and series architect Daniel José Older, with art by Harvey Tolibao and Nick Brokenshire, is a prelude to the Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures series!
Also from The High Republic series is the FCBD 2021 adaptation of Greg Rucka‘s novel, Star Wars: Guardians of the Whills, written by Jon Tsuei, Shima Shinya, Justina Ireland, with art by manga artist Subaru and Mizuki Sakakibara. This story introduces Baze and Chirrut before the Rebellion first met them in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Arriving Tomorrow
Will you be picking up either of these FCBD issues when they arrive at your local comic shop (LCS) tomorrow, Marvel Blog True Believers? Which one of the one-shots are you most excited to get your hands on? Let us know in the comment section!
