Kumail Nanjiani Tours Avengers Campus
On August 31st 2021, Kumail Nanjiani toured Avengers Campus at DCA in Anaheim, California, for the first time.
The Disney Parks Blog caught up with the Eternals actor after he trained his WEB-Shooter skills with Spidey and the other young Avengers on WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure, and he shared that the ride “was a workout for his arms.”
Now, that’s two Avengers who have said that thwiping webs is VERY TIRING!
As part of his tour, Nanjiani also met Iron Man himself at Avengers Headquarters, and he teamed up with Rocket to free the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy team from Tivan’s collection at Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!
It sounds like Nanjiani is a hero already, even if the Eternals have been hiding in the shadows for centuries…
Plus, Marvel fans should be able to meet Nanjiani’s character Kingo, along with other members of the Eternals team, on future trips to Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park in Fall 2021, according to the Disney Parks Blog.
Eternals
Marvel Studios’ Eternals, arriving in theaters November 5th, 2021, will introduce an exciting new team of superheroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a group of ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years.
In the film, directed by Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao, the Eternals team members will have to reunite after years living apart to stand against the Deviants, aka humankind’s most ancient mortal enemy… that maybe even Nick Fury was oblivious too. But luckily, humankind has the Eternals to protect them.
Well, at least humankind has the HUMAN Dane Whitman (Kit Harington) to convince the team of super powerful ancient alien beings to actually intervene (ya know, this time), and he seems to start by convincing his love interest, the part-time librarian, and part-time Eternal, Sersi (Gemma Chan).
Who Is Kingo?
When Eternals arrives in November, Nanjiani will walk the Earth as Kingo, an immortal hero moonlighting as a Bollywood star.
In an interview with The Los Angeles Times, Nanjiani explained his character Kingo in more detail, saying:
He’s an Eternal so he’s been here for thousands of years. He has these super powers and he’s become a Bollywood movie star. All the Eternals have been in human society to different degrees, but he’s the one who really immersed himself and falls in love with the trappings of modernity. And he loves being rich. He loves being famous. He loves being an Eternal.
The Kingo actor also stated in the interview that it was his idea to portray the character as a strong physical being, saying:
I’ve been in this industry for about a decade and I looked at the usual opportunities that the brown dudes get. We get to be nerdy. I wanted him to be the opposite of that — I wanted him to be cool. With nerdy goes “weakling,” and I wanted him to be the opposite of that and to be strong physically. Or we get to be terrorists, and I wanted him to be the opposite of that. I wanted him to be this character full of joy. In working with Chloé, we were like, let’s take every single thing that I haven’t gotten to do and make a character who’s the exact opposite of the way a lot of American pop culture see people from Pakistan or the Middle East.
Kingo and the rest of the star-studded international cast of Eternals, including Richard Madden, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Harish Patel, Barry Keoghan, Gil Birmingham, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie, will arrive in theaters on November 5th, 2021.
