REVIEW: Cold, Hard Truth in Gamma Flight #4
In Gamma Flight #4 by Al Ewing, Crystal Frasier, Lan Medina, Antonio Fabela, and Joe Sabino, with a main cover by Leinil Francis Yu and Sunny Gho, the daddy issues come to a head! Plus, we discover more about the sinister plot to corrupt a Texas town!
Gamma Flight #4
In this issue, the Gamma Flight team is able to use the information they’ve gained in previous issues – namely, that the people of the town are being corrupted by a brain/body supplement called “Fortify.”
In this issue, we learn that the reason that people have been taking this malignant “medication” is because of an aggressive marketing campaign on AM Radio – talk about fiction being influenced by reality! I loved this detail, and the use of the Marvel Universe to explore a problem that is all-too-real.
Then, between Dionne (Stockpile) and Skaar, there are plenty of daddy issues to work through in this issue. Skaar’s dad was Bruce Banner, A.K.A. the Hulk, who wasn’t really a person who was in a position to raise a son.
And then, Dionne’s father has been transformed by Gamma Radiation into something horrible – something that is exploiting Dionne’s baggage in order to use her.
On top of that, there are several dazzling splash pages in this issue, featuring great action and the whole Gamma Flight crew.
All this means that this issue is filled with intriguing story developments on both a plot and thematic level! And believe me when I say that Gamma Flight #4 packs a heck of a punch as far as the cliffhanger department goes. Get ready to remain on the edge of your seat for a whole month, Marvel Blog True Believers!
