Marvel’s Midnight Suns Gameplay Livestream Reveals More Details
Announced in August 2021, Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a tactical RPG from Firaxis Games that will give players superhero action with an XCOM spin when it arrives next year. Marvel’s Midnight Suns will star many of your favorite Marvel heroes, including the X-Men and the Avengers, as well as some superheroes that fans may be unfamiliar with from the similarly titled comic book run, Midnight Sons. With the arrival of Marvel’s Midnight Suns, fans will also have a chance to play other Marvel superstars like Blade using the new card-based ability system.
In a video streamed on YouTube on Tuesday, September 7th, 2021, the Marvel’s Midnight Suns team showed off the first gameplay footage for the upcoming title, which will be released for all major consoles and PC in March 2022. Check it out for yourself below:
In addition to combat, we also got to see some of the gameplay that will take place in the Abbey, the headquarters for the Midnight Suns team, and let’s just say that Marvel’s Midnight Suns is at the top of our most-anticipated video game list!
Combat
First of all, we got to see some of the game’s combat in action. Just like we’ve been promised, this included tons of cool, unique moves and character combinations (you can unlock new moves by building relationships between characters – but more on that below).

In addition to fighting some HYDRA baddies, we also got to see a showdown between Wolverine and Sabretooth! This battle was extra cool because Sabretooth has a special combat move based on his appearances in the panels of Marvel Comics. The creators promised that we’ll see many more comic-based moves when the game debuts in March!
“I grew up reading and loving Marvel comics,” said Jake Solomon, creative director on the project at Firaxis Games, in an interview with GamesRadar+. “To be entrusted with these characters and their stories is an honor for me and the team. If you’re a Marvel fan, or an RPG fan, or a fan of tactics games, Marvel’s Midnight Suns will make these beloved characters come alive in a way that you’ve never seen before.”

The Abbey
Plus, in the gameplay demo, we not only saw some combat, we also got to see some of the world surrounding the combat. The Midnight Suns team emphasized that they had gone out of their way to craft an all-new headquarters, but one that was inspired by comic book locations like Avengers Mansion and Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.

The Abbey is the area where heroes will hang out between missions, and you can choose which heroes you spend time with… which will in turn affect the moves you unlock over the course of the game.
Plus, the designers promised plenty of exploration around the Abbey, and in the video, we got to see Hunter follow Charlie the Hellhound to the Agatha Shrine (based on one of my very favorite Marvel characters, Marvel Blog True Believers)!
