REVIEW: Spotlight on a Fantastic Hero in THE THING #1
In The Thing #1 by Walter Mosley, Tom Reilly, Jordie Bellaire, and Joe Sabino, we get a story set in a bygone era that follows The Thing as he encounters a malignant entity named Mot. I’ve been excited about this story for a very long time, Marvel Blog True Believers! Does it live up to the hype? That’s an ever-lovin’ YES!
The Next Big Thing
In this issue, The Thing returns home to New York City (after a fishing trip off the coast of South America – just like Mosely’s Easy Rawlins novels, this comic is very worldly) only to find that he’s somehow become cut off from the people who are supposed to be closest to him. Worse still, he’s been cursed by a malignant entity named Mot.
One of my favorite parts of this whole issue had Mot haunting The Thing’s dreams and sending him a truly chilling vision of the entire Marvel Universe… dead! But while things may invariably fall apart, can The Thing put his life back together again before it’s too late?
There was no page of this issue that didn’t look outstanding (which is no surprise, considering the top-not art team). Like the recent What If…? story about Spider-Man keeping the symbiote suit, every page of this issue reminded you that we were looking into a retro era of the Marvel universe.
With juicy parts for many familiar Marvel faces and plenty of interesting new characters alike, I strongly advise you to do any heavy lifting necessary in order to pick up a copy of The Thing #1. Every member of the creative team is firing on all cylinders in this incredible opening issue!
