REVIEW: Spaceward Ho in Hulk (2021) #1
In Hulk (2021) #1 by Donny Cates, Ryan Ottley, Frank Martin, and Cory Petit, a new creative team takes over for the smashiest Avenger! While The Immortal Hulk has been an extremely popular title over the past few years, all good things must eventually end, and now it’s time for a different Hulk story to take the stage. How does it measure up? Let’s find out, Marvel Blog True Believers!
“Smashtronaut!”
We got our first glimpse of this new Hulk story back in August 2021, thanks to the Free Comic Book Day issue featuring the Avengers and Hulk.
While this story does use The Immortal Hulk as a foundation, I think that you can enjoy it fine without having read that series (although that series is excellent, so if you have a subscription to Marvel Unlimited, consider checking it out as well).
However, this issue sets forth a new and exciting status quo, one with loads of potential. It seems as though Bruce Banner has been pushed over the edge, and as a result, he’s intentionally fragmented his mind As a result, he’s been able to turn the Hulk’s body into what amounts to a starship, and he’s going to launch himself (and the Hulk) into space!
Doctor Strange (who seems pretty alive in this story in spite of The Death of Doctor Strange) explains all this to us over the course of this issue, and the incredible idea is more than enough to fuel speculation until the second issue arrives. Simply put, this storyline has a whole galaxy’s worth of potential, and we will have to be there to see how it plays out, Marvel Blog True Believers!
