Eternals on Disney+
Eternals is the second Marvel Studios film to be released exclusively in theaters since the beginning of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. The arrival of the pandemic caused many MCU movies to be delayed.
Notably, Black Widow, which was meant to be released in 2020, did not see release until Summer 2021. And while Black Widow was released in both theaters and on Disney+ simultaneously (provided you were willing to pay extra for Premiere Access), star Scarlett Johansson subsequently brought a lawsuit against Disney, arguing that it had affected the amount of money she could earn from the movie (and apparently forgetting there was a pandemic).
The next MCU movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, was released exclusively in theaters in September 2021. Then, it was released for streaming on Disney+ last month, just in time for Disney+ Day. As an immunocompromised person, it is not safe for me to go to theaters amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, so I was very excited to finally see this movie when it arrived on that date!
Meanwhile, Eternals was released exclusively in theaters in November 2021. Naturally, I won’t get to see it until it arrives on Disney+ in January, but I am looking forward to watching it then.
