Just Spy Things: Florence Pugh [Redacted] on Instagram
In an article posted to Entertainment Tonight Canada on Thursday, December 9th, 2021, it was reported that Florence Pugh, who appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the role of Yelena Belova, the new Black Widow, was blocked from posting certain Hawkeye images on Instagram. Black Widow trying to spill information to the public that gets [redacted]? Say it ain’t so, Marvel Blog True Believers!
As you might have gleaned from that opening paragraph, this article will contain spoilers for the fourth and most recent episode of Hawkeye, the ongoing MCU streaming series on Disney+. If you haven’t had the chance to watch the new episode, which was released for streaming on Wednesday, December 8th, 2021, and you want to avoid spoilers, then burn this article before reading!
Pugh Gets [Redacted]
According to the article, Pugh posted a Story on Wednesday that claimed she had been prevented from posting Hawkeye spoilers to her main feed (although the image shared earlier in the day is still posted).
It makes sense that Pugh would want to share the images of her appearance in the show, which was teased in the mid-credits sequence of Black Widow. However, her role in the series was downplayed so that her appearance in the most recent episode would be something of a surprise.
However, it’s very in-character for Belova to want to share secrets. Here she is in The Winter Guard #4 by Ryan Cady, Jan Bazaldua, Federico Blee with Fernando Sifuentes, and Ariana Maher:
And of course, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the previous Black Widow (Scarlett Johanssen) shared all of those state secrets she stole from S.H.I.E.L.D. Perhaps Pugh was simply type-cast a little too well, Marvel Blog True Believers!
