Kit Harington Gives an Update on His Marvel Cinematic Universe Future
Perhaps the biggest failure of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga was the studio’s inability to launch new heroes and franchises out of its established stars.
While Marvel found success over the last six years with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the studio’s track record with original films was spotty at best.

After Avengers: Endgame, Marvel attempted to pivot to a new generation of heroes, delivering films such as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, and Fantastic Four: First Steps.
On streaming, they introduced characters such as Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Moon Knight, and Wonder Man.

While some of these productions found success, many did not.
More importantly, Marvel failed to find characters who could fill the shoes of Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow.
‘Eternals’
Perhaps no film was more indicative of Marvel’s struggles than Eternals.

Not only did the film introduce the titular race of intergalactic beings, but it also saw Kit Harington portray Dane Whitman/Black Knight, and Mahershala Ali’s voice as Blade debut.
After Eternals proved to be both a box office and critical disappointment, Marvel quickly swept the film under the rug.

While the film’s events were referenced in Captain America: Brave New World, none of the film’s characters have returned in live action.
With Kevin Feige adamant that Eternals 2 is not in the cards, it looks like we may have seen the last of Sersi, Ikaris, and Kingo.

Additionally, Mahershala Ali’s Blade film failed to materialize, and the actor has been adamant that he is moving on.

Now, we have an update on Kit Harington’s MCU future.
Kit Harington Breaks His Silence
In a recent interview with MovieWeb, Harington was asked if there were any plans for his return to the MCU.

Unfortunately, it sounds like we may have seen the last of Dane Whitman.
“I mean, I’d love to. I don’t think there’s any plan to. I hate to break it to you, but I think he’s a wicked character,” Harington said.

Despite Marvel’s lack of enthusiasm for Black Knight, Harington is adamant that he would love to portray Whitman again.
“There’s a part of him, that whole Ebony Blade stuff, where the more he kills, the worse he gets, the more addicted. I think he’s such a great parable of addiction. And I think he’s someone who starts good, goes bad. I think he’s great. But we’ll see. I don’t know if there’s any plan,” he continued.
What About ‘Midnight Sons’?
At this point, it appears that any future for Dane Whitman/Black Knight is going to have to come apart from Eternals.

Nevertheless, there may still be opportunities for Harington to suit back up.
With Ghost Rider on the horizon, it appears that Marvel may be leaning back into the realm of the supernatural.
This could provide an opportunity for Harington’s return, especially if the long-rumored Midnight Sons film were to come to fruition.
It may be a long shot, but as they say, hope springs eternal.
