REVIEW: Love Language in Spider-Bot 2
In the second episode of Spider-Bot by Jordan Blum, Alberto Alburquerque, Dono Sanchez-Almara, and Clayton Colwes, we get another story that puts Spidey’s devoted Spider-Bots front and center… but this time, the comic will be written in love language!
Love Language
As with the first episode of Spider-Bot, the new Infinity Comics series on Marvel Unlimited, this story concerns the exploits of the Spider-Bots who assist Spider-Man (you may recognize them if you’ve had a chance to visit the Worldwide Engineering Brigade at Avengers Campus, Marvel Blog True Believers).
But this issue is all about love language! As Spider-Man and (one of his) arch-enemies, the Green Goblin, are battling, our Spider-Bot gets the chance to meet one of the Goblin’s themed flying devices…
But soon, the pair have fallen head-over-heels in love with each other! This leads to lots of silly sight gags, like the Spider-Bot raising its arms as the Goblin Glider carries them over New York City, or a scene that calls to mind the famous spaghetti dinner from Lady and the Tramp.
Plus, I adored the way that Love Language told a sort of “Romeo and Juliet” story, where the two “children” of two different houses – each alike in dignity, I guess – end up finding common ground through romance… but with electronic devices. This is what we come to the Marvel Comics universe to see, Marvel Blog True Believers!
Not only is this an innovative demonstration of the common ground between the two arch-enemies, it’s also a silly gag taken to its logical conclusion… and that’s just good comedy! This episode also did a very good job of telling a story with almost no dialogue, which can be much harder than it looks, Marvel Blog True Believers!
