RETRO REVIEW: Ghost Rider Xmas Special (2016)
In the Robbie Reyes: Ghost Rider Xmas Special (2016) by Method Man, Anthony Piper, Balak, Andres Mossa, and Travis Lanham, with a cover by Jamal Campbell, we get a spine-tingling seasonal story that sees Ghost Rider facing off against a spooky version of Santa!
“The Christmas Spirit of Vengeance”
Sure, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens may have three ghost characters, but they have nothing on Robbie Reyes, A.K.A. Ghost Rider! In this story, he discovers that a mysterious monster has been posing as Santa Claus! Worse still, he’s been abducting children… and let’s just say that if this creature gets his way, these children will ensure he’s got a full feast for the holiday! I mean he’s gonna eat the kids, Marvel Blog True Believers.
Fortunately, Ghost Rider is not about to let that happen. One of my favorite things about the Reyes version of Ghost Rider is his vehicle, and I’m pleased to report that the distinctive Challenger does indeed get plenty of action in this issue. I especially enjoyed the part when the car was taken aloft by the evil Santa’s sleigh!
Furthermore, I liked the ending to this comic, which saw Ghost Rider holding one of the kids accountable for being a little psychopath who was torturing kittens (seriously). If that seems like a shocking ending to you for a Christmas comic, then maybe you missed the fact that this was written by Method Man!
Robbie Reyes: Ghost Rider
While this story was originally released as an Infinity Comic, that used to mean something different back in 2016. One element of the Infinity Comics of the mid-2010s was animated aspects. These aren’t included in the Marvel Unlimited version, and it’s kind of a bummer that we can’t enjoy them.
However, this is still a fun and entertaining Xmas story starring Ghost Rider! Merry Marvelous Xmas, y’all!
