‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Leaps to $1 Billion at The Global Box Office
The latest MCU installment continues to shatter any previously held expectations of box office success, as Spider-Man: No Way Home leaps to $1 billion at the Global box office.
Not since 2019 with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has a film managed to round up $1 billion at the global box office, and that was pre-pandemic.
States across the US have begun to see a new wave of Coronavirus related restrictions, partially due to the new Omicron variant. However, none of this seems to be slowing down audiences as they head to theatres in droves to view the latest Spider-Man sequel.
Audiences Flock to Theatres For Christmas Weekend
The celebration of the Christmas weekend hasn’t held back fans from viewing the film, as theatre sales over the Christmas weekend exceed that of the Thanksgiving weekend with an increase in overall attendance.
Having already surpassed the second biggest opening weekend mark, Spider-Man: No Way Home doesn’t seem to be slowing down in the slightest. Not only are people wanting to view the film for the first time, but many are going back to view it for a 2nd or 3rd time with friends and family.
Altering the Perception of Pandemic Era Film Releases
In a roller coaster of an era where movie goers must be increasingly selective on deciding which movies to venture out and see, Spider-Man: No Way Home has firmly been a top selection among many.
During the period of December 22nd to the 26th, Spider-Man: No Way Home has almost tripled the attendance rate of the second most attended movie over the Christmas weekend Sing 2. While a potential heavy hitter like the Matrix: Resurrections was hampered by a dual streaming and theatre release among other things.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is setting an entirely new precedent among pandemic era releases and not only is it topping the box office sales, but audiences are raving at the quality of the film. This is all to say that theatres may not be an entirely lost cause, as long as the film can work to appeal to and appease viewers of all ages.
Can Anything Stop No Way Home?
Is there anyway to stop the juggernaut of this latest Spidey flick? We don’t know the answer to that question, but we will continue to watch in amazement as it continues to trek towards new records.
As Spider-Man: No Way Home leaps to $1 billion at the global box office, Perhaps we will also go see the film for a second time…or a third time…
