RUMOR: Norman Reedus Could Play Ghost Rider in the MCU
Coming off of the incredibly successful Spider-Man: No Way Home, and looking to a stacked 2022 that includes the long-awaited adaptation of Moon Knight; rumors are heating up that Walking Dead alumn Norman Reedus could play Ghost Rider in the MCU.
One of the most iconic Marvel comic characters ever created, Johnny Blaze has been a fixture of the publication since his debut in 1972.
With a few live-action adaptations under the character’s belt, it is only a matter of time until the hell cycle riding, flaming skull sporting character makes his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
There is a very real inevitability, with the character’s eventual appearance all but guaranteed, which means only two questions remain: Which Ghost Rider should appear, and who should play him?
Gabriel Luna has been very vocal about his desire to reprise his role as the iconic Robbie Reyes; a character that he first portrayed in Marvel’s long-running television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Roberto Reyes is the most recent Ghost Rider in the comic books, bringing some interesting changes to the character including his Hispanic origin, and his use of a Dodge Charger as opposed to the classic Ghost Rider Hell Cycle.
Nicholas Cage was the originator of the role, playing Johnny Blaze in two films starting with Sony’s 2007 Ghost Rider; a film that predates the MCU by one year.
With the character set to make his long-awaited return a decade after Cage’s debut over a decade ago, there have been rumblings of a return; with rumors suggesting that Norman Reedus could play Ghost Rider in the MCU.
Many fans have been quick to call on Walking Dead alumni to play the next iteration of Ghost Rider on screen, and the actor commented on the recent rumors.
Speaking to Comicbook.com, Reedus talked about the outpouring of fan support for his eventual casting, stating, “The Ghost Rider conversation has been coming up for years, and yeah, tell them to put me in it, I want to play Ghost Rider. That would be great. So, I don’t know, call somebody, make that happen.”
The veteran Boondock Saints actor concluded with one telling statement, “I want to do it.”
With the fan calling of support, and Reedus’ own desire to play the role, it seems as though this casting choice may just be a match made in heaven…or hell.
