SPECULATION: Could Qi’ra Get a Crimson Dawn Disney+ Show?
Rumors are swirling that Emilia Clarke (Secret Invasion), who played Qi’ra in the 2018 movie Solo: A Star Wars Story, could be returning to the role for a future Disney+ series. If this is the case, we just have once question, Marvel Blog True Believers: where will the ongoing Crimson Reign fit in (or will it be partially or entirely ignored by the on-screen continuity)?
Qi’ra Ascendant
The most devoted of Marvel Blog True Believers will know that we’ve heard a whole bunch about Qi’ra over the past year, as the character played a key role in the massive Marvel Comics Star Wars crossover event, War of the Bounty Hunters. In that series, which was set between The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi on the Star Wars continuity timeline (A.K.A. the “Shadows of the Empire” era), Qi’ra was responsible for stealing the carbonite-frozen Han Solo from Boba Fett’s clutches.
And as this storyline continues in the panels of Marvel Comics, we’ve entered into the Crimson Reign era, which sees the next phase of Qi’ra’s plans as head of the Crimson Dawn organization come to fruition.
However, while these stories are very interesting, there’s no obligation for Lucasfilm to reference them (or even consider them part of the continuity) if they do decide to bring Qi’ra to the small screen. Take, for example, the character of Cobb Vanth, played by Timothy Olyphant in the second season of The Mandalorian.
While this character shared a name and some characteristics with a character who appeared in all three of the Star Wars: Aftermath novels by Chuck Wendig, the version we met on-screen didn’t precisely line-up with the pre-established continuity.
Crimson Reign
While a possible Disney+ adaptation featuring Qi’ra is not out of the Fizzbin cards, it remains to be seen whether or not the potential series would consider her Marvel Comics appearances to be part of her continuity.
