Andrew Garfield Liked Lying About Spider-Man
We all know that one of the terrible burdens that must be shouldered by Peter Parker is the secret that he is not only a mild-mannered young man, he’s also the amazing superhero known as Spider-Man! Keeping this knowledge from his friends and family is a difficult sacrifice, but one that many incarnations of Peter Parker have been forced to endure (just see Spider-Man: No Way Home for more on this, Marvel Blog True Believers).
But according to a new interview with Andrew Garfield over at The Wrap, he actually enjoyed lying about the fact that he appeared in the most recent Spider-Man movie!
Spider-Man: No Way Home
Here at Marvel Blog, Garfield is one of our Top Three Live-Action Spider-Mans [Non-Japanese or Musical Category], so we were somewhat flummoxed in May 2021 when the actor stated during an interview that he had “not been called” about making a return to Spider-Man.
Obviously, in retrospect, this was a lie, as both Garfield and previous Parker Tobey Maguire both appeared in the most recent entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside established MCU Spidey Tom Holland.
But in the interview with The Wrap, Garfield admits that while it was stressful to openly mislead the media about his role in the movie, he actually enjoyed the challenge.
“It was stressful,” Garfield said in an interview with The Wrap about another movie he’s recently starred in, the Golden Globe-winning tick, tick…BOOM! “I’m not gonna lie. It was rather stressful but also weirdly enjoyable… It was like this massive game of Werewolf that I was playing with journalists and with people guessing, and it was very fun.”
More Garfield Spidey?

As one of the journalists who was lied to about Garfield returning to the role of Parker, I have no complaints about the whole affair. Feel free to continue to lie about appearances, Marvelous actors: some of us like to be surprised, and Garfield says lying is a lot of fun!
