MarvelBlog News for October 17th, 2026
Marvel just debuted an entirely new series and also stressed something important.
Another series is underway, and they’re not just saying that.

So, we’ll do them a solid and give them the benefit of the doubt.
It’s the least we can do during the week when Marvel generously gives us VisionQuest. We’ll discuss both in this week’s MarvelBlog News.
Zodiac Is Totally Real

Marvel has seen the headlines on places like, say, MarvelBlog. The studio knows what people are saying about the future of Marvel content.
Folks like me are flatly stating that Disney+ and Marvel are at odds.

Disney’s streaming service paid hundreds of millions of dollars for Marvel content.
The shows that have done the best, such as Agatha All Along and Loki, cost the least.

Since Disney’s in cost-cutting mode right now, the perception has become the reality.
Many of us believe that Disney+ wants out of the Marvel live-action content game.

Under that theory, VisionQuest will be the last major project for some time.
After that, Marvel animation will create most of the content for the streaming service.

Seriously, we just learned that we’re getting Marvel Zombies stories in 2027, 2028, and 2029.
Also, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will get a fifth season as well.

Why is all this happening? Animation is cheap, whereas real humans cost money.
Did I mention that Disney is “prioritizing efficiency” right now? Yeah, they’re doing layoffs.

Honestly, they’ve done layoffs throughout 2026. We’re on round four at the moment.
That’s why you should take what I’m about to say with a huge grain of salt.

Disney has confirmed that Zodiac will debut on Disney+ in 2028.
I’ve previously mentioned this show, but it’s 100 percent official now. No takebacks.
What’s Zodiac?

Nobody knows yet, and Marvel’s being cheeky about the whole thing.
A few Marvel executives appeared at the recent New York Comic Con.

During the event, Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of television spoke.
He said, “If you’re a fan of the comics, there’s a lot hidden in that logo. That’s all you’re getting. It’s supposed to be a secret.”

If you’ve ever wondered whether Marvel has lost the plot, therein lies your proof.
Rather than saying anything of note about an upcoming series that totally exists, they say this.

Marvel’s hoping that some die-hard fans will go pixel by pixel on a logo.
Don’t get me wrong. People are already doing it, but that’s just a sign of boredom.

The reality is that Marvel heard the criticism about its winding down of Disney+ live-action content.
So, they threw together a logo in Photoshop and pretended it had hidden meaning.

I don’t mean to be cynical about this, but come on! Marvel hasn’t even cast anybody yet.
At this point, all we know is what Winderbaum told Collider:

(ABC/Mitch Haaseth)
“It’s a globetrotting, international espionage show about secrets and lies and betrayals and secret acts of loyalty and an insane cast of characters.”
One report indicates that the cast will include two men and one woman as the leads.

Also, the show will apparently be set in England and feature three English characters.
Early word suggests that it’s a British equivalent to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but you should take that with a grain of salt.

Don’t worry. Marvel’s got a calendar year to come up with something before it has to film anything.
Marvel Has Vision

On the bright side, VisionQuest’s first two episodes are now available on Disney+.
Enjoy them while they last, as live-action Marvel programming is about to be in short supply.

We’ll get the conclusion of Daredevil next year and then Zodiac “in 2028.”
It’s going to be thin for a while…and that’s presuming Zodiac actually happens.

On the bright side, reviews are mostly positive about VisionQuest.
I wouldn’t describe them as glowing the way that WandaVision and Agatha All Along were.

Then again, that’s a really tough bar to clear since they’re both excellent.
The show is currently 84 percent Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes but only a 62 on Metacritic.

Many critics have already seen the entire season, which makes the lukewarm reviews a bit worrisome.
I’m mentioning this so that you can calibrate your expectations accordingly.

My confession is that I’ve been busy this week, so I haven’t caught the first two episodes yet.
I’ll probably be caught up by the time you read this, but I can’t offer my own opinion yet.

Hopefully, others have lowered my (and your) expectations, and I’ll (we’ll) love it.

We’re in a bit of a Marvel news lull as we all await Avengers: Doomsday. I’d hoped for bigger headlines at New York Comic Con.
Alas, Zodiac (and its logo) was the biggest we got, which ain’t much. We did learn why Spider-Noir didn’t get a season two…maybe.

Actor Nicolas Cage claims that he refused to sign an AI usage waiver for the show.
He states, ““Amazon is a very AI-friendly company, to the tune of $50 billion invested in OpenAI.”

Then, Cage adds that he’s unlikely to work with Amazon ever again.
Ergo, Spider-Noir may have gotten caught in the crossfire. It’s likely too expensive without AI.

Reports also suggest that Marvel is currently casting for three other roles in the X-Men movie.
One is the previously rumored Nightcrawler, while the others are Beast and Moira MacTaggert.

Also, I’m not reading anything into it yet, but Jeremy Renner posted something intriguing.
On his Instagram account, the actor hinted at West Coast Avengers.

I’m guessing it’s just something quick that happens in Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.
Still, I always liked the West Coast Avengers, so I’m hoping for more.
