REVIEW: “Hail Thanos” in Eternals #8
In Eternals #8 by Kieron Gillen, Esad Ribić, Matthew Wilson, and Clayton Cowles, we learn more about what it’s like for the Eternals to live in Lemuria… and it’s pretty weird, Marvel Blog True Believers!
Eternals #8
First and foremost, I like this book’s tone, which approaches seriously Eternals drama with a light and comedic tone.
The Eternals are forced to live among the Deviants in Lemuria… but some of the Deviants are getting more deviated. Once this happens, they attack other Deviants… and the Eternals are compelled to dispatch them when this occurs. It’s pretty weird, but it’s also pretty interesting, and puts the Eternals in a very strange position indeed.
One of the most interesting parts of this issue is the dynamic between Druig and Thanos. At the end of the previous issue, Thanos murdered Druig, and now he’s been resurrected… only Thanos has removed his memories of his final moments. While Druig knows this must mean that Thanos killed him, he doesn’t know how or why it transpired. Under duress, he agrees to be the assistant to Thanos, but he knows he is “entering a minefield.” It’s a very engaging dynamic, Marvel Blog True Believers!
Another aspect of this issue that I enjoyed was the continuation of the inclusion of pages filled with text that provide essential exposition on the Eternals and the Deviants, with this issue’s “Things to See and Do in Lemuria (Part IV)” being especially enjoyable. I mentioned this style in my review for Eternals #7, Marvel Blog True Believers, and it continues to prove effective here!
