REVIEW: J. Jonah Jameson Stars in Spider-Bot #6
In the sixth Spider-Bot Infinity Comic on Marvel Unlimited by Jordan Blum, Alberto Alburquerque, Dono Sanchez-Almara, and Clayton Cowles, we get a story that features not only the titular, eponymous Spider-Bots, but also stars one of my very favorite characters in the whole Marvel Comics canon: J. Jonah Jameson, Editor in Chief of the Daily Bugle himself!
J. Jonah Jameson
The most devoted of Marvel Blog True Believers will already be well-acquainted with my affection for the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Bugle. This “blowhard boomer” ( I’m quoting Peter Parker in this episode here) has long been a on-again, off-again antagonist of Parker – or more precisely, of Spider-Man.
While the pair has had better relations with each other a different points over the course of their history together, J. Jonah Jameson is best known for decrying Spider-Man as a vigilante and menace. Not only is that perspective intact here, but because JJJ is mostly dealing with the Spider-Bots rather than Spidey himself, he really lets the insults fly!
You need to know that I laughed out loud MULTIPLE times over the course of this hilarious episode, which gives J. Jonah Jameson the chance to share what he really thinks about the Spider-Bots (he even calls them “Furbie” knock-offs… out, Marvel Blog True Believers)!
And as with the previous episodes of Spider-Bot, this one is chockablock full of Marvel Comics continuity references. Everything from J. Jonah Jameson’s son “Man-Wolf” to M.O.D.O.K.’s little “baby limbs” are brought up in this episode, which also includes a sequence in which JJJ flees A.I.M. through the Daily Bugle building stairwell that takes great advantage of the scrolling format.
We Want Scrolling Pictures of Spider-Man
If you haven’t been reading Spider-Bot, the Infinity Comic on Marvel Unlimited, we just have one question: Don’t you deserve something nice at the end of the week?
Well, there’s no better way to start your weekend than Spider-Bot. I don’t know how many more episodes of this Infinity Comic are yet to come, Marvel Blog True Believers, but I do know that it has become the highlight of my Friday morning. Here’s hoping we get many more installments!
