A Much Longer Harry Styles Scene Was Cut From ‘Eternals’
Eternals, one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most ambitious projects yet featured a memorable post-credit debut of Eros, yet the cast reveals a much longer scene starring Harry Styles was cut.
The Chloé Zhao directed epic has found new life, and a renewed appreciation from the fanbase, as it made its long-awaited debut on Disney+.
One of the most interesting projects from Marvel Studios, Eternals is based on the Marvel Comics by Jack Kirby. It features the story of ten near-immortal beings, who have existed on earth since the dawn of humanity. Sent by the Celestials — the originators of all life in the universe — these Eternals were tasked with protecting human beings from the grave Deivant threat in order to promote the evolution of intelligent life.
With the revelation that these Eternals were sent to eventually facilitate the destruction of the planet, they rebelled against their Celestial creators and saved the Earth from impending destruction.
The film’s post-credits scene featured the arrival of Styles as Eros, brother of Thanos and a fellow Eternal who possessed one of the spheres that allowed Sersi to communicate with Arishem.
Styles is a fantastic choice for the MCU’s Starfox and should have a bright future ahead of him as a recurring character in the Eternals franchise.
What some fans didn’t know, however, is that a much longer Styles scene was cut from Eternals, as it is revealed he may have had a much bigger role in the film than originally assumed.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lauren Ridloff, who played Makkari in the film, spoke of the scene as she was discussing how great Styles was to work alongside.
The actress stated, “He arrived and he was just like part of us immediately…He watches out and he thinks: ‘what can I do?'”
EW references the cast revealing that the original scene was much longer, but didn’t make the cut. Reportedly it featured a sequence in which “the Eternals and Eros are sitting aboard the starship Domo, communicating with the Celestial Arishem with their eyes closed.”
It would’ve been very interesting to see Eros communicate with Arishem alongside his fellow Eternals, and much more would’ve been revealed about his potential role in Eternals 2.
For now, we can only speculate on where the role is going, and just what to expect out of Styles as Eros and Patton Oswald as his companion Pip the Troll in the upcoming sequel installment.
