We Have A Theory…Is That a Captain Marvel Variant in Dr. Strange 2?
The Multiverse of Madness is shaping up to be an amalgam of mayhem featuring a myriad of Marvel characters. Is it possible that a new Captain Marvel may also appear?
The trailers are being picked apart by fans as everyone is looking for the tiniest of details to confirm certain character appearances. Already we’ve heard the legendary voice of Patrick Stewart, who will almost certainly reprise his role as Professor X! As we combed through the trailers we noticed the potential for a character to potentially appear! We all know of Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel, but we have a theory that a variant of Captain Marvel may appear in Dr. Strange 2!

One of the action sequences in the trailer for Multiverse of Madness shows a powerful figure squaring off against Scarlett Witch. With Wanda using her hex powers to stop an incoming blow from the superpowered figure.
Some have thought the figure to be a potential Iron Man variant utilizing the Superior Iron Man armor. Others think that it could possibly be ‘He Who Remains’, or Kang, who was seen at the end of Loki Season 1. However, this particular writer thinks it may be a variant of Captain Marvel in the form of either Maria Rambeau or even Maria Rambeau.

One of the more telling aspects supporting the hypothesis of a potential Captain Marvel variant is the fiery glow of the figure’s powers. When Carol Danvers uses her powers in the MCU films, there is often a fiery glowing aura surrounding her.
The figure in the trailer that attacks Wanda seems to have a similar fiery orange aura that implodes upon impact with Wanda’s hex powers. Within all of Captain Marvel’s MCU appearances, she attacks using the same fiery orange aura.

Maria Rambeau As Captain Marvel?
Now, why would the variant be Maria Rambeau instead of simply an alternate Carol Danvers? First, While it was Danvers’ ship that was shot down by Yon-Rogg when Danvers attempted to help Kree scientist Mar-Vell in the first Captain Marvel film, ultimately resulting in Danvers absorbing the energy of the tesseract.
It is not entirely out of the realm of possibility for an alternate reality to contain a Maria Rambeau who absorbed the energy of the tesseract after helping Mar-Vell. Maria Rambeau and Carol Danvers were extremely close friends who held many of the same ideals. Additionally, stills taken of the trailer unveil a similar-looking figure to Maria Rambeau.

Could it be Monica Rambeau?
Another potential alternative is that the figure could be Maria Rambeau’s daughter Monica. Monica Rambeau’s body was somehow altered by The Scarlet Witch’s hex powers after passing through the barrier that covered over Westview in Wandavison. While we still don’t know what Monica’s powers will consist of, there is a possibility that it could be reminiscent of Captain Marvel’s powers.
Further, the silver and blue armor/suit that the figure in the still is wearing looks to be similar in color to the S.W.O.R.D suit that Monica Rambeau wears in Wandavision.

After the immense success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange’s second journey into the MCU is shaping up to be a magnificent follow-up. While Dr. Strange’s original film opened us to our sorcerer hero, Dr. Strange 2 looks to flesh out the multiverse, while also adding to Wanda’s journey, and continuing to build Dr. Strange’s pillar in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
We cannot wait for this amazing film!
