Sony’s ‘Kraven The Hunter’ Reporteldly Finds its Villain in Christopher Abbott
The upcoming addition to Sony’s developing Spider-Man Universe has reportedly found its villain as Kraven The Hunter has reportedly cast Christopher Abbott.
Sony has been consistently building a vast Spider-Man center universe with its solo films dedicated to Venom in the form of the self-titled origin story, and the subsequent Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
Their collaboration with Marvel culminated in the massive record-breaking success in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and gave them a renewed ability to explore past incarnations of the Peter Parker character for the future in ways that weren’t available before.
With the impending Morbius, that universe is set to get a lot bigger as the sympathetic villain is set to be the second Spider-Man character explored in his own solo title.
Madame Web was recently cast, as well as the announcement of a rounded-out ensemble for the upcoming film centered on the Spider-Man villain Kraven The Hunter film; a film that may have just found its villain in the form of Christopher Abbott.
The film will follow the character of Kraven- played by MCU veteran Aaron Taylor Johnson- and Abbott is reportedly set to play the character known as The Foreigner, a Spider-Man villain that will serve as the main antagonist to Kraven’s journey within the film.
If the promotional campaign for Morbius has taught us anything, or what we’ve seen in the two Venom films, Sony is seeking to establish a Spider-Man universe in which the villains are all first established as a certain kind of hero.
Morbius the living vampire is a former doctor who only seeks to help save the world from an unknown disease; with his treatment method turning him into a hideous monster reliant on the blood of human beings, making him the target for Spider-Man.
It seems as though Kraven will do something similar with the eponymous character, in terms of making him the hero of his story, with Abbot’s Foreigner set to play the villain of the film.
Abbott brings a ton of experience, and immense talent, to the film, and should provide a great foil for Aaron Taylor Johnson’s title character in a project we cannot wait for.
