‘What If…?’ Season 2 May Arrive in 2022 After All

Marvel’s animated anthology series has already been confirmed to continue, but amidst uncertainty surrounding when it will debut, we may now have news that What If…? season 2 may arrive in 2022 after all.

A departure from the typical projects taken up by Marvel Studios and the vast MCU, What If…? marked the first animated project by the studio, and gave fans a concept that was a fantastic change of pace from the norm.

An anthology series, What If…? followed some of Marvel’s most iconic characters in a brand new way, asking the all-important question, and taking viewers into the journey of the multiverse and just what could have been in something was different.

The series gave fans brand new characters such as Captain Carter, T’Challa’s Star-Lord, and the menacing and villainous Infinity Ultron.

Since the conclusion of the first season, Marvel has been adamant about the series continuing on with recurring seasons that explore more and more characters that get introduced throughout the MCU; the only question remaining, was when?

We may now have some assurance that Marvel What If…? season 2 may arrive in 2022 after all, as a new report has pointed to this year as the hopeful premiere date for the follow-up season.

First reported by The Direct, Disney reportedly released the following statement in regards to the series in a recent production briefing, statement reads:

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently the highest-grossing film cranchise of all time. Feige is byildig on that success with a host of new series that streamed on Disney+ in 2021, Including WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If…?, and Hawkeye

Upcoming original series for 2022 include Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and the second season of What If…?

Although this would not be considered definitive proof that the series is primed for a season 2 this year, it does add evidence to the fact that Marvel Studios perceives the series to continue on an annual release schedule.
