Chiwetel Ejiofor Speaks On Branching Out MCU’s Magical Realm
Doctor Strange:The Multiverse of Madness is weeks away! In a recent interview with Comicbook.com, actor of Strange’s nemesis Karl Mordo, Chiwetel Ejiofor spoke on the branching out of MCU’s mystical realm.
While we can surmise a minuscule amount of information regarding what role Ejiofor’s Mordo will play in the sequel, Ejiofor applauded the direction that the MCU is taking stating that:
Chiwetel Ejiofor Praises the MCU’s “Magic Corner”
One of the main points Ejiofor brought up is the expansion of the MCU’s “magic corner”, expressing that the mystical realm of the MCU was “taking on a life of its own”. Lauding the direction that both Marvel and Sam Raimi have moved towards.
Ejiofor further applauded the depth of the characters and how Raimi can manage the number of character skills and interactions despite the ever-increasing complexity of both.
Comparing MCU’s Mordo to Comic Book Mordo
Ejiofor’s Karl Mordo is definitely an interesting case when delving into both the MCU’s and comic book background of the character and his interactions with fellow sorcerer Dr. Strange.
In both the MCU and Marvel comics, Mordo had been a student of the Ancient One when Strange had been recruited. The comic book Mordo was certainly more heinous than his MCU counterpart. Attempting to murder the Ancient One and clashing with Strange a plethora of times.
The MCU differs from the classic version heavily both in-depth and in character. In the MCU, Mordo clashed with Strange based on ideologies and became disillusioned with his ally The Ancient One when he learned that The Ancient One drew power from the Dark Dimension.
The last we see of Mordo is his stripping of a fellow sorcerer’s powers at the end of the first Doctor Strange film, stemming from his disillusionment with sorcerers after The Ancient One’s deception.

The Multiverse of Madness looks to pick up on Mordo’s story after he has joined the Illuminati. How Mordo joined this organization, why Mordo is seeking out strange, and what role he will play in the Doctor Strange sequel are all a massive unknown.
What is known is that Mordo will obviously play a large role in the film and exploration of the multiverse.
Expanding the MCU’s ‘Magic Corner’
As Ejiofor mentioned Marvel looks to be expanding the magic corner of the MCU. In Wandavision we saw the introduction of Agatha Harkness who introduced dark magic and is already set to have her own Disney+ series Agatha: House of Harkness
Further, Wanda’s son Billy Maximoff was dressed in the attire of the character Wiccan during the Halloween episode of Wandavision, eluding to the fact that he may become the powerful warlock Wiccan as he does in the comics.
The Marvel universe is filled with an impressive cast of interesting magical characters that could join the mix. Brother Voodoo, who was once rumored to be in Doctor Strange 2, would be an excellent addition, as he has even replaced Strange as sorcerer supreme.
Brother Voodoo, Jericho Drum is a practitioner of dark voodoo magic who has helped out numerous Marvel characters such as the Avengers and Spider-man. Brother Voodoo was chosen by the Eye of Agamotto to replace Strange as Sorcerer Supreme.
Perhaps the greatest introduction to the magical corner of the MCU would be in the form of the notorious Marvel villain Dr. Doom. Doom is well-versed in sorcery, having been trained by Morgan Le Fay, the sorceress of Arthurian legend.
While many fans assume that Doom’s facial scarring was induced by the Fantastic Four, it was actually the result of Doom opening a portal to hell in an attempt to save his mother. Doom would be an excellent ‘evil’ counterpart to the good-aligned Dr. Strange and would prepare the MCU for the entry of the Fantastic Four.
The Multiverse of Madness Will Pave the Way
Regardless of which direction the MCU’s magic corner will move toward in the coming years, the Multiverse of Madness is certainly going to be an absolutely pivotal movie for the corner’s growth moving forward.
Two vastly important magic characters in Dr. Strange and Scarlett Witch may be involved in something that may change the MCU forever, and it will arrive in a few short weeks! And we cannot wait to see it!
