The ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Moment That Was All Kevin Feige
Although his influence on the development and production of every Marvel Cinematic Universe film can’t be understated, a recent interview has given us the Doctor Strange 2 moment that was all Kevin Feige.
Marvel’s Phase Four has not only been one of the MCU’s most creative and ambitious endeavors but also presents a new kind of fan engagement with every new release.
It was first seen in the highly-anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home, as audiences delved deep into every rumor and potential spoiler to engage with the film’s arrival, and to theorize every possible outcome for the anxiously awaited addition to the MCU’s Spider-Man franchise.
That has only continued with the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness; a film that was set to focus on the multiversal narrative that first began in that Spider-Man film.
Doctor Strange in the Mutliverse of Madness focused on Strange, Wong, and America Chavez, who travel throughout the multiverse in order to protect the latter from the power of Wanda Maximoff’s fully evolved Scarlet Witch.
Seeking out the power to travel to alternate realities that Chavez’ possesses, Wanda is relentless in her pursuit, which leads both Chavez and Strange on a mad chase throughout the multiverse; which leads to some of the coolest sequences of the entire film, and the debut of the multiversal Illuminati.
That multiversal traveling sequence also brought forth the Doctor STrange 2 moment that was all Kevin Feige.
In a recent interview with Variety, the film VFX artist Alexis Wajsbrot talked about the various worlds that the two visits in the sequence, and how the MCU architect had a hand in establishing one.
Wajsbrot stated, “One was an Incan statue world, which ended up in the movie because Kevin Feige thought, ‘Well, that could be a great world to put the Living Tribunal in.’ So that world became the Living Tribunal World.”
The VFX artist continued, “We proposed a jungle and Kevin Feige said, ‘Well, it could be cool if it was Savage World.'”
“It’s a world that exists in the Marvel Universe, so we had to add dinosaurs. ” Ajsbrot concluded, “We had to model and texture and render and animate dinosaurs for two seconds, which is extremely not cost-efficient.”
It is interesting to hear what aspects of the film Feige directly impacted, and how he is such a vital aspect of the filmmaking process despite the vast amount of projects coming out in any given year.
