Is Gorr Using Dark Magic In Thor: Love and Thunder?
There are so many mysteries that have seemingly been raised from the promotional campaign for the upcoming fourth solo film in the characters saga, but one that we’ve wondered about is if the film’s villain, Gorr the God Butcher, is using dark magic in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder.
He is as enigmatic and mysterious as any villain that has arrived in the MArvel Cinematic Universe in some time and is the next in a long line of interesting villains that have made their debut during the lauded Phase Four.
Despite the immense praise that has been heaped onto the performance given by the esteemed Christian Bale during his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, there is still so little known about the origins of the character in this adaption, or his place among the Universe.
One thing that has intrigued us at MarvelBlog is the origins of the immense power that has made this character capable of going toe to toe with these gods that he has vowed to destroy; armed only with the Necrosword whose origins will be undeniable different than its comic book source material
Some of the film’s promotional material that we have seen has led us to ponder whether or not Gorr is using Dark Magic in Thor: Love and Thunder?
Dark Magic is something that was explained first in WandaVision, with the Marvel Universe giving audiences one distinct feature to confirm whether or not a character has been utilizing the dark and corruptible force; black fingers.
It is something we have seen in Agatha Harkness, Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MAdness, and even Supreme Strange in that same film’s look into an alternate reality that saw the sorcerer supreme be corrupted by the dark hold.
There are certain depicts of Gorr in this promotional campaign that seem to show him with black fingers, with one piece of merchandise- a Marvel Legends figure of the character- clearly showing him with blackened fingers.
Could the Nerosword be tied to Dark Magic? It seems entirely possible- plausible even- given what we know about the origin and menacing nature of the practice that only seems to corrupt the user.
