Marvel Cut Jeff Goldblum and Peter Dinklage Scenes from Thor: Love and Thunder
We know that the film is one of the shortest that Marvel Studios has developed, and we also know there was a lot of great stuff that didn’t make the final cut, but we know now that some performances also were, as Marvel reportedly cut Jeff Goldblum and Peter Dinklage scenes from Thor: Love and Thunder.
It was the subject of much controversy early this summer when news started spreading that the highly-anticipated Thor: Love and Thunder were shaping up to be one of the shortest Marvel Cinematic Universe entries in its more than a decade of films.
Although it wasn’t a development that was entirely out of the blue- as Taika Waititi’s prior Thor endeavor, Thor: Ragnarok, is also among the shortest- it was news that worried a lot of fans of the character, and fans who expected Thor: Love and Thunder to be a seminal installment of the character’s franchise.
That isn’t to say that the film still will not be that, as Waititi and Hemsworth have proven what their collaborative partnership can craft, but it did feed into a lot of fans’ worry as to just how much the film will be able to explore in teh time that it was given.
It turns out that the film short runtime likely speaks more to the fact that Waititi and Compay are steering toward a more centrally focused story, with news now arriving that Marvel cut both Jeff Goldblum and Peter Dinklage scenes from Thor: Love and Thunder.
Speaking of how much of the film was cut, Gorr himself, Christian Bale, stated, “I got to work with Peter Dinklage, that not in the final film, but he’s fantastic. I got to work with Jeff Goldblum, he’s not in the final film either.”
Bale added, “As you see, a lot of stuff ends up on the curing room floor been though it is beautiful brilliant stuff.”
Dinklage made his MCU debut as Eitri the Dwarf king responsible for building Thor’s Stormbreaker, while Goldblum plated The Grandmaster, the man responsible for controlling the Planet Sakaar.
It would have been incredible to see Gorr interact with- and likely kill- both characters, but we can only hope that at some point we will get a full Thor: Love and Thunder with all of these scenes readded.
