A Beloved Marvel Character Has Finally Been Made Canon!
Thor: Love and Thunder has arrived and has featured a plethora of Thor’s allies from past films. Valkyrie, Korg, and Thor’s past lover Jane Foster. Now Thor’s iconic roommate Darryl has returned and finally been made canon!
For those who don’t know of Darryl, fans were first introduced to Darryl during a special short film titled Team Thor that debuted at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con. Shot in the style of a self-parody mockumentary, the short film was created to depict Thor’s whereabouts during the events of Captain America: Civil War.

In Team Thor Thor returns to Earth to invest in some “me time”, moving to Australia he finds an apartment with roommate Darryl. The short film even showcases Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner, and details Thor’s disappointment that neither Tony Stark nor Steve Rogers tried to contact him during their “relationship issues”.
Darryl is seen speaking about his time with Thor, remarking that Thor doesn’t really think in the same way humans do. The two are seen playing connect 4 with Thor destroying the game after losing, Thor attempts to pay rent with unusable Asgardian gold, and finally, Thor hires a servant to work for him and serve him.

Darryl’s journey wouldn’t end there, as a second short film followed Darryl as he moved to Los Angeles and was looking for a roommate after his last “housemate” was lost during the blip when Thanos snapped half of existence away. This time Darryl’s roommate would be the eccentric Grandmaster!
The Grandmaster would attempt to use Darryl as a replacement for his missing bodyguard/right-hand Topaz, requiring that he even wear Topaz’s armor. The two bonded well, but ultimately Darryl would lament on “missing his old housemate”.

Before the release of Thor: Love and Thunder while fans enjoyed these short films and fell in love with the character, the short films were considered non-canon as they existed outside the films. However, Darryl has now arrived in the new Thor film Love and Thunder! Thereby confirming him as canon!
New Asgard Tour Guide Darryl!
In the new film, Darryl shows up in his housemate’s homage to Asgard, New Asgard. As Jane Foster is traveling through New Asgard with a group of fellow tourists, they gather around the remnant pieces of Mjolnir, Darryl, the now tour guide is there! Who better to know about Mjolnir and Asgard than the housemate of Thor himself!

Actor Daley Pearson who has played the character throughout all the Team Thor and Team Darryl short films, posted to Twitter speaking on Darryl’s “glow-up” with a pin of him winning tour guide of the month! It seems living in an apartment with Thor has certainly paid off for everyone’s favorite housemate!
We cannot wait to see Darryl’s appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder!
