Avengers: Endgame was Originally Almost 4 Hours Long
It is, to this day, the most ambitious event that the film industry has probably already seen, and was the great achievement of an endeavor that spanned over a decade worth of worldbuilding across various film franchises; and even more, remarkable, Avengers: Endgame was originally almost 4 hours long.
In the history of the entire film industry, we would argue that nothing has attempted the massive feats that were made by Marvel Studios’ vast development of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
An entirely interconnected film universe that didn’t feature just one franchise of several films, but featured several different franchises building together to develop one massive and unprecedented event that saw them all encounter one another.
Since Iron Man first debuted in 2008, there was the sense that these various films were building to something phenomenally massive and on a scale that was unheard of in the history of films as an entity.
First, the Avengers saga, in which various characters joined together to face off against an impending intergalactic threat, then to the Infinity Saga, with saw a genocidal alien bring a threat against this entire film universe that even more characters joined together to defeat.
The final two installments were some of the biggest films of all time, but the final installment was reportedly in danger of being one of the longest films ever made, as it is now being reported that Avengers: Endgame was originally almost 4 hours long.
Talking to WIRED (Reported by ComicBook.com), the directing duo of Anthony and Joe Russo were asked about a potential six-hour cut of the film, and they had a response that we found incredible.
Joe Russo stated, “I think the longest we’ve ever had it was like 3 hours and 40 minutes. If we did a supercut of Infinity War and Endgame, there probably be. Could probably, between the two, it could be a six-hour cut.”
The director added, “I think those 40 minutes deserve to be on the editing floor. You have the director’s cut. That’s it. There’s nothing else, sorry.”
A six-hour supercut of Infinity War and Endgame would be a cinematic experience that we absolutely need, and would be one of the coolest Marvel collections ever assembled.
