‘She/ Hulk’ Writer Reveals Failed ‘Black Widow’ Pitch
The latest Marvel hero has officially arrived in her very own brand new series that is already made it one of the most entertaining projects of the MCU’s Phase Four; as it turns out, that may have been channeled for a different character, as the She/ Hulk writer reveals failed Black Widow pitch.
Jennifer Walters has officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and with her debut has come the arrival of one of Marvel’s most interesting characters in the massive pantheon of heroes that they have sported in their vast history.
Walters is unique for the very interesting perspective she brings to the world of superheroes, not only is she a superhero herself, and a lawyer but she also can’t hide behind a secret identity the way that someone like Matt Murdock can due to the very nature of her powers.
That iconic character is now coming to the world of live-action adaptations, as Walters is joining the MCU in what has already been an incredibly entertaining and accessible series, and done right by the hero due, part, because of the great writing of Jessica Gao.
The most recent Marvel project may not have been Gao’s first exposure to Marvel fans, however, as the She/ Hulk writer has recently revealed her failed Black Widow pitch that would’ve put the legendary assassin in High School of all places.
Speaking to The Wrap, Gao stated, It was basically a Grosse Pointe Blank story for Black Widow. Basically, you find out that in high school, as a teenager spy/ Russian agent, she was planted at an American high school, because she had to assassinate someone’s dad…”
Gao added, “and then 20 years later, she goes back to the high school reunion and has to deal with the fallout of this fake identity where she betrayed all these people in high school.”
It would’ve been a very interesting story, to say the least, but we are definitely happy with how things turned out, with both Black Widow getting a very good- and very underrated- MCU entry and She/ Hulk having her very own Disney+ series.
