As we arrived at the character’s remarkable feat of a 60th anniversary, there was a collective urgency for Marvel to do something that was befitting the character, and to give fans a journey that was very much worthy of the feat that was immensely are for the comic book world.
And that celebration is now coming to fruition, as the iconic comic series that started it all is being revisited to honor the beloved hero, and Marvel’s Pull List podcast was the perfect place for Marvel editor Nick Lowe to speak on the upcoming Amazing Fantasy #1000 issue.
Lowe is Marvel’s executive Spider-Man editor (that’s right, the character has its own editor) and this upcoming issue will commemorate the iconic Amazing Fantasy #15 issue that arrived in 1962, debuting the hero.
The upcoming #1000 will feature the all-star cast of Dan Slott, Rainbow Rowell, Kurt Busiek, Jonathan Hickman, Steve McNiven, Jim Cheung, Ryan Stegman, and one of the most well-known names in the history of the industry, none other than Neil Gaiman.
Lowe stated, “I knew I wanted to do a big celebratory Spidey one-shot and Marvel Comics #1000 had just come out. And so everyone was on board to do something. I can’t even tell you the amount of emails and calls I made to try and get people on stories.”
“But I got so many of my moonshot on this one and I’m just so proud of them.” Lowe continued, “I think maybe the most surprising one was Armondo Iannucci.”
Lowe added, “For those of you at home who might not know, he created the show Veep, he created In The Loop… and he is such an awesome person and a hilarious person and a huge fanboy. And I had been trying to get him to write comics for six years!”
The reality is that Amazing Fantasy #1000 will bring together some of the most iconic voices in comics, and it is primed to be the massive celebratory applause that is befitting the most beloved character to ever grace the pages of a comic book.
