Veteran Executive Dave Bushore Leaves Marvel Studios After 15 Years
After a storied 15-year career with Marvel Studios, Dave Bushore is moving on.
According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, the Marvel veteran, who most recently served as vice president of franchise creative and immersive development, is not leaving for another company but instead setting off on his own.
At Marvel, Bushore was one of the driving forces behind What If…?- An Immersive Story. The mixed-reality video game brought the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the Apple Vision Pro, allowing fans to set off on their own heroic adventures.
‘What If…? – An Immersive Story’ Broke New Ground for Marvel
A collaboration between Marvel Studios, ILM Immersive, and Apple, What If…?- An Immersive Story recently won the Creative Arts Emmy for outstanding innovation in emerging media. It was also showcased at the Vienice International Film Festival, a first for Marvel.
“Being invited to Venice was mind-blowing,” Bushore told The Hollywood Reporter. “Being there and seeing the embracing of this new type of content, and the people coming through doing the experience, filmmakers and ambassadors, that was a really cool thing.”
A Storied Marvel Career
Bushore’s Marvel career began in 2009, just after the release of The Incredible Hulk. Initially, he worked as a coordinator for Brad Winderbaum, who is now the head of Marvel television, streaming, and animation.
As the Avengers slowly but surely came together, Bushore began to climb the Marvel ranks. After working in home entertainment, television specials, and parks development, he moved into special projects.
With his experience at the intersection of technology and entertainment, Bushore will now set off to explore new frontiers.
A Farewell and a Look Ahead
Looking back at his time at Marvel, Bushore admits that he will miss his peers and the creative environment that they fostered.
“I’m going to miss the people, the characters, and the ideas that get thrown around in the hallways,” he said. “There’s no place like Marvel Studios for that. It’s infectious.
Still, the now-former Marvel executive is excited about the future.
“I’m ready to bring that energy and big ideas to some new kinds of stories in town.”
