Marvel Executive Brad Winderbaum Reveals Which Version of Ghost Rider He Wants to See in the MCU
Just before the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) exploded onto the scene, Nicolas Cage brought Ghost Rider back to the forefront of popular culture.
In 2007’s Ghost Rider, Cage portrayed the Johnny Blaze version of the popular anti-hero, proving that there was an appetite for superhero films. While the film’s sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, was panned by critics, the film series would develop a cult following.
While Gabriel Luna played the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the man indwelled by a Spirit of Vengeance has yet to make a proper appearance in the MCU.
Ghost Rider Did Not Appear in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’
Ahead of the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, many fans had hoped that Cage would reprise his role as Johnny Blaze in the film. However, Ryan Reynolds later revealed that there were discussions about including Ghost Rider.
With the Fantastic Four and the X-Men set to join the MCU, fans have held out hope that Ghost Rider could follow suit.
Brad Winderbaum Talks Ghost Rider
In a recent interview with Collider, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, was asked what series he would green-light if he could snap his fingers and make it come to fruition.
Interestingly, Winderbaum quickly named Ghost Rider.
“I would wanna do the Danny Ketch era of Ghost Rider. I think there are a lot of people who would be here for some Ghost Rider.”
Who Is Danny Ketch?
For those unfamiliar with the Ghost Rider comics, Danny Ketch is Johnny Blaze’s half-brother, who was imbued with a Spirit of Vengeance by the medallion on his motorcycle.
The third Ghost Rider, Ketch has both starred in his own series and appeared alongside Blaze.
While Winderbaum’s comments do not indicate that any Ghost Rider project is in the works, they do give insight into how Marvel views the character.
Hopefully, we will see Ghost Rider appear in the MCU sooner rather than later.
