Josh Brolin Shares His One Requirement For Returning As Thanos

With the Marvel multiverse set to come together for the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, fans are already starting to speculate about what characters we could see return.

While it looks like Robert Downey Jr. will be too busy playing Doctor Doom to reprise his role as Tony Stark, the Marvel faithful continue to hold out hope that the likes of Steve Rogers, Black Widow, or even Wesley Snipes’ Blade can somehow be brought back into the fold.

Another name that has been bandied about is Thanos. The Avengers, of course, killed Thanos (twice) during the events of Avengers: Endgame. Still, the Mad Titan remains the quintessential Marvel villain, and the idea that he could return is tantalizing.

Josh Brolin Talks Thanos

In a recent interview with Collider, Josh Brolin discussed the possibility of reprising his role as Thanos in another Marvel multiverse story.

Interestingly, the actor did not rule out the possibility. He did, however, have one condition for returning.

“I’m not kidding — there’s a thing with playing Thanos. It’s like, ‘Oh, they’re gonna bring Thanos back.’ It’s like Sicario; it has to be right,” Brolin said. “Or like Ryan Reynolds and I talking about Taylor Swift and we should be talking about Deadpool 4. But we go back and forth. Again, it’s what in his mind fits, what in my mind fits. Thanos has to fit if you’re going to bring him back. I would do anything that the Russos wanted me to do.”

While it sounds like Brolin would be open to playing the Mad Titan again, his stipulations make sense.

Like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, however, it is very possible that Marvel can use the multiversal events of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to facilitate Brolin’s return without undermining the events of Avengers: Endgame.

With the Marvel multiverse set to come together, it seems like a certanity that we will see familiar faces return to the MCU. Whether or not Brolin’s Thanos is among their ranks, however, remains to be seen.
