‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Is Tracking Toward a $100 Million Opening Weekend
The next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will unfold on February 14, when Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters.
With less than five weeks until the film’s debut, the box office tracking service Quorum now estimates that Brave New World will deliver a three-day opening of $86 to $95 million. By the time the Valentine’s Day/President’s Day weekend ends, the film will likely surpass $100 million.
All Eyes of ‘Brave New World’
As the first major release of 2025, all eyes will be on Captain America: Brave New World when the film debuts. In addition to being the first MCU film of the year, the movie will be the first Captain America film not to star Chris Evans in the titular role.
This time around, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson will pick up the shield, joined by a star-studded cast that includes returning Marvel stars Tim Blake Nelson (Samuel Sterns/Leader), Liv Tyler (Betty Ross), Carl Lumbly (Isaiah Bradley), and Danny Ramirez (Juaquin Torres/Falcon).
Joining the Marvel veterans will be Giancarlo Esposito (Sidewinder), Shira Haas (Ruth Bat-Seraph), and Harrison Ford, who is assuming the role of Thunderbolt Ross from the late William Hurt.
Sources Have Indicated That ‘Captain America 4’ Did Not Test Well
In the lead-up to the release of Captain America: Brave New World, Marvel fans and observers have been concerned about the film’s box office prospects. Multiple sources have indicated that the test screenings for the film have not gone well, and Marvel has reportedly done multiple reshoots in response.
With that in mind, a $100 million opening weekend would be a win for Marvel and could indicate that Brave New World has better box office prospects than many assumed.
The last time Marvel released a film over President’s Day weekend, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania debuted to a $120 million opening. While the film’s opening was seen as a success, it quickly fell off a cliff.
If the Quorum projection holds, Brave New World will fall between Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($95 million) and Captain America: Civil War ($179.1 million) for the second-best opening in franchise history.
With a new Captain America making his debut, and the franchise entering its second decade, Marvel will happily take that number.
