New ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Featurette Previews Doctor Strange, Daredevil, and More

The next great Spider-Man story will unfold before our eyes when Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man debuts on January 29.

Like X-Men ’97, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will not be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, the series will follow an alternate version of Peter Parker, allowing the show’s creative team to dive deeper into the character’s comic book lore.

“I want to give a cliche ‘expect the unexpected’ answer. But, honestly, I think you can expect Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. It’s him, he’s hanging around New York,” showrunner Jeff Trammell explained on the Official Marvel Podcast last year.

“It’s not like a huge intergalactic adventure, it’s him just like at his roots. And there’s a lot of things, that I think, we as a fan base kind of take at a first glance. Like, ‘Oh yeah I know this works I know that’s part of the story.’”

Building on Spider-Man’s Storied History

Inspired by Steve Diko’s legendary run of comics in the 1960s, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will feature a distinctive look that sets it apart from other series.

“It’s a comic book come to life,” series star Cathy Ang explains.

Unlike Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, the Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man version of the character is not mentored by Tony Stark.  Instead, Peter comes into contact with Norman Osborne, who takes him under his wing.

“We have the privilege of following the movies and shows, so we pay homage to them as well as the comics,” Trammell said.

“And we build on things we’ve seen before but present them in new ways. We use those expectations to our advantage and turn things away from where you might expect. I’m excited for people to see new twists on classic characters, and I’m also excited to introduce characters that aren’t normally featured in Spider-Man stories.”

An Electic Cast of Characters

In a new featurette previewing the upcoming series, Marvel released a first look at some of the other major characters who will appear in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
