An Early Version of ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Would Have Included the Illuminati

In Captain America’s Brave New World post-credit scene, Sam Wilson visits Samuel Sterns in The Raft. During the tense conversation, the supervillain warns that “it’s coming.”

Hinting at the Incursion that will set off the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, Sterns tauntingly asks Captain America how he will protect Earth.

“All you heroes protecting this world. Do you think you’re the only ones? Do you think this is the only world?” Sterns asks. “We’ll see what happens when you have to protect this place…from the others.”

Who Are “The Others”

While Brave New World never makes it clear who Sterns is talking about, a popular theory has been the Illuminati or at least a different universe’s version of the Avengers.

In a new interview with TheWrap, Brave New World director Julius Onah was asked about the possible inclusion of the iconic Marvel team in the film. According to the interviewer, the Illuminati was included in an early draft of the script.

Asked who would have been in the group should they have appeared, Onah clammed up.

“I’m not going to say! I’m not going to say (laughs). Let’s just say things are purposely left vague in that post-credit for a reason.”

Who Are the Illuminati

For those who don’t know, the Illuminati are a group of superheroes who join forces behind the scenes to work together. In the comics, the team is comprised of Tony Stark, Namor, Mister Fantastic, Black Bolt, Doctor Strange and Professor Charles Xavier.

The team made their MCU debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness when Wanda Maximoff and Stephen Stephen visited Earth-838.

That version of the Illuminati consisted of Karl Mordo, Captain Peggy Carter, Block Bolt, Maria Rambeau/Captain Marvel, Reed Richards, and Charles Xavier. When the team confronts Wanda, they are all killed except for Mordo.

Now, it looks like a second version of the Illuminati may play a significant role in the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

For now, however, we will have to wait and see.
