Scarlett Johansson Is Adamant That Black Widow Is Not Coming Back
With the Marvel multiverse set to come together for the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Endgame, all eyes have been on the franchise’s original Avengers.
Ever since it was revealed that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom, speculation has run rampant that Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson could similarly return in some capacity. The hope for fans is that the original Avengers could reassemble in some capacity.

While there have been conflicting reports on Evans’s return (for what it’s worth, the actor says he is happily retired from the MCU), the buzz around Johansson has been more muted.
Scarlett Johansson Says “Natasha Is Dead”
In a recent interview with InStyle, Johansson gave a definitive statement on her future with Marvel.
“Natasha is dead. She is dead. She’s dead. Okay?” she said, openly pleading with Marvel fans. “They just don’t want to believe it. They’re like, ‘But she could come back!’ Look, I think the balance of the entire universe is held in her hand. We’re going to have to let it go. She saved the world. Let her have her hero moment.”

Based on Johansson’s comments, it looks we can scratch Black Widow off of the potential Avengers suiting up.
Hope Springs Eternal
Still, as any fan knows, death is almost never permanent in the Marvel multiverse.

Based on Marvel’s history of secrecy, fans will not believe that Johansson is really gone for good. The rumors will persist until Doomsday and Secret Wars hit the big screen. Perhaps then, we can lay Black Widow to rest.
