Marvel’s ‘Blade’ May Never Hit Theaters, But Its Legacy Lives on in ‘Sinners’
While it remains to be seen whether Marvel’s Blade reboot will ever make it to theaters, the long-delayed film contributed to one of the biggest hits of 2025.
Those who have been following the tumultuous Blade production know that at one time, the film was going to be set in the 1920s. This version of the film would have featured recording artist Flying Lotus and brought the daywalker back to his comic book roots.
For those who are unfamiliar, Blade was first introduced as Eric Brooks, a half-man, half-vampire, born in London in 1929.

While this version of the film was eventually scrapped, its legacy has lived on in an unexpected way.
‘Sinners’ Featured ‘Blade’s’ Unused Costumes
In a recent interview with ScreenCrush, Sinners producer Sev Ohanian revealed that the costumes used in Ryan Coogler’s blockbuster horror film were initially designed for Blade.

“Ruth Carter was working on the Blade movie that ended up not shooting,” he said on the ScreenCrush podcast. “At one point, that movie was going to deal with—and she’s talked about this before—but at one point, that film was going to deal with the past, around the same era as Sinners.”
Marvel Had No Objections
According to Ohanian, Marvel was willing to lend a helping hand.
“She happened to have a warehouse full of period-appropriate clothes, and it was like, ‘Yo, we got to shoot this movie like tomorrow.’ And Marvel was generous enough and kind enough to let us basically purchase it at price.”

At this point, it seems like it would take a miracle for Blade to hit theaters. Nevertheless, the film has made a small impact on movie history.
