Jeremy Renner Shares a Positive Update on His MCU Future
While the Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal featured dozens of the biggest names in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Fox X-Men series, there were a few notable names missing.
After the roster was revealed, fans were quick to point out that Chris Pratt, Paul Bettany, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman were not among the revealed names. Then, of course, there is Jeremy Renner.

As one of the few remaining original Avengers to still be active in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many fans assumed it was a foregone conclusion that Renner would suit up again for Avengers: Doomsday. This, in spite of the fact that the archer has not appeared in the MCU since Renner’s near-fatal snowplow accident.
Renner Turned Down ‘Hawkeye’ Season 2
Then, Renner revealed that he had actually turned down Marvel’s overtures for a Hawkeye Season 2 after they asked him to take a pay cut.
“They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money. I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount,’” he said.

Suddenly, Hawkeye’s future was clouded.
A Positive Update
Thankfully, it now sounds like there is no bad blood between Renner and Marvel, and we will see Hawkeye suit up again. Perhaps even for another season of his titular show.

“I’m always happy to be in that world, man,” Renner told Empire. “I love all those guys, I love the character. I’m sure we’ll end up doing Season 2, and do other things. And I’m happy to do it. My body’s getting ready for something like that. I don’t know if anybody wants to see me in tights, but my body will look good in the tights.”
While it remains to be seen if Hawkeye will show up in Avengers: Doomsday, it would be surprising if he doesn’t return by the time Avengers: Secret Wars concludes.

It should be noted, however, that Marvel did not include Renner in Avengers: Infinity War. Instead, Hawkeye had an emotional arc in Avengers: Doomsday that led to the events of Hawkeye Season 1. Perhaps, then, we will see Renner held back until Secret Wars, and his character’s story will continue from there.
