Channing Tatum Tried Out To Play a Different Marvel Hero Before Suiting Up as Gambit
While Channing Tatum’s decade-long quest to play Gambit has been well documented, it turns out the X-Men isn’t the only Marvel hero that the actor tried out to play.
In a recent interview with Variety, Tatum revealed that in the midst of his Gambit quest, he tried to jump into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Thor.

Here is the story.
Why Tatum Tried Out For ‘Thor’
According to Tatum, he took the Thor audition, not because he wanted to portray the God of Thunder, but because of who was directing the first Thor film.

“I didn’t really want to be Thor. But I wanted to audition in front of Kenneth Branagh,” Tatum revealed to Variety.
While Tatum’s expectations for getting the opportunity to play Thor were low, the audition ended up being a learning experience for the actor.

“After I did one take, [Branagh] was like, ‘You’re not allowed to move. Put your hands on this chair.’ And I froze. He nailed my crutch. I spent the next five years really trying to learn stillness,” he recalled.
The End Results
While the role of Thor would eventually go to Chris Hemsworth, who has since become synonymous with the character, Tatum would eventually get the opportunity to play Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Next year, he will get the opportunity to suit up again for the events of Avengers: Doomsday. In the end, it seems like everything worked out for the best.
